Chronicles of Clean 2: Germ-Proofing Mineral Air Device Exteriors

In our third of the Mineral Air Chronicles of Clean Series, here’s how to take care the exteriors of your Mineral Air devices. Here’s to safety and pretty on the outside.Illustration for Mineral Air by @GREENK_JPN.

It’s no secret that regularly cleaning your Mineral Air AirMist device is the key to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. We trust that it’s become habit by now. That’s why we’ve posted a handy how-to video on our website.

But in this Corona-intensive era of ours, we now know the necessity of cleaning anything with a high-touch surface. Both your Mineral Air devices (AirMist and ElixerMist) certainly qualify as do the outsides of all your product refill bottles.

Pre-COVID, few of us knew the difference between cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting and sterilizing. Here you go:

- Cleaning removes visible soil (what you can see with the naked eye)
- Sanitizing reduces bacteria on hard surfaces (but does not work on viruses)
- Disinfecting kills surface bacteria and viruses on hard surfaces
- Sterilizing kills all forms of microbial life by physical (heat) or chemical means in a medical setting

For our purposes, we want to clean and disinfect our devices’ and products’ exteriors. Essentially though, chemistry dictates is that to really clean something it takes multiple steps because no matter how strong the disinfectant, it cannot penetrate surface material or smudges to kill germs. In the case of Mineral Air, this surface soil could be foundation or blush traces, fingerprints, dust or whatever. In other words, you have to clean before you clean.

WIPES METHOD

STEP 1: Cleaning
Remove all visible surface smears, fingerprints etc. with a makeup remover wipe.
Wait 45 seconds.

STEP 2: Disinfecting
Wipe down the surface with an isopropyl alcohol wipe. Wait 45 before proceeding. If you use a hydrogen peroxide wipe, give it 5 to 8 minutes before moving onto Step 3.

STEP 3: Water
Wipe down the surface with a paper towel dampened with water.
Dry thoroughly.

GREENER METHOD

STEP 1: Cleaning
Remove all visible surface smears, fingerprints with a clean soft cloth and Mineral Air’s Airbrush Cleaner.
Wait 45 seconds.

STEP 2: Disinfecting
Using a clean soft cloth, wipe down the surface with isopropyl alcohol (70% strength, undiluted.) Wait 45 seconds before proceeding. If you use straight 3% hydrogen peroxide, wait 5 to 8 minutes before continuing on to Step 3.

STEP 3: Water
Wipe down the surface with a clean soft cloth dampened with water.
Dry thoroughly.
