Haircare Guru Philip B. Helps Soothe Psoriasis Scalp with Mineral Air Skin

Our friend, the legendary beauty product innovator and formulator Philip B, recommends Mineral Air Skin Renewal Serum as portable cooling relief to his clients with psoriasis and eczema.
When legendary hairdresser and product formulator Philip B. founded his beauty products empire in the early 1990s, he started with the scalp by introducing his now iconic Rejuvenating Oil. Why? Because he discovered early on that it’s impossible to have healthy hair if the scalp is suffering. Lately, the scalp has been on his radar again with the launch of his Scalp Booster System (Pre-Wash, Shampoo and Conditioner) that encourages hair regrowth.
Back when he was a working hairdresser, he saw many clients with stubborn, inflammatory psoriasis or eczema on their scalps. These were serious cases, usually genetic, that often required medical intervention. Eventually, he partnered with a dermatologist to open a scalp treatment clinic. “The challenge with these two conditions,” Philip says, “is that they sometimes can’t be cured but only managed. But with what we know now, they can be managed well.” Avoiding triggers like stress, alcohol, unprotected sun exposure and smoking can help.
One thing he found that–along with his oil treatments in tandem with other medications from the doctor–the powerful moisturizing effect of hyaluronic acid can help ease the itching and flaking of scalp disorders. So when Mineral Air introduced Renewal Serum as delivered by the ElixerMist device, Philip had a brainstorm, “Since a primary ingredient of the Renewal Serum is hyaluronic acid, I started suggesting to clients with scalp psoriasis or eczema that they mist it on those areas when they had a breakout. It helped. And best of all, it didn’t ruin the look for feel of the hair.”
Philip’s technique is to part the hair over the flaking areas and mist from area to area from a few inches away. Since those with these scalp conditions often have flaking elbows, knees, hands and other areas, he suggests they use it there too for a bit of sweet temporary cooling comfort and relief.
What’s the difference?
Mineral Air offers two device-plus-formula categories, one for makeup, the other for skincare. Mineral Air original (MA) includes its AirMist Device, an easy to use, everyday consumer tool that rivals professional airbrushing in its cosmetic application of our eponymous foundation, blush, or bronzer. Mineral Air Skin (MAS) features the Renewal Serum System with its ElixerMist Device for lightweight vaporized delivery.
